Favorite Quotes:

“I want to have some kind of reminder that while wounds heal, they don’t disappear forever-I carry them everywhere, always, and that is the way of things, the way of scare.”

“How is it possible to live the same story twice, from different vantage points?”

“Sometimes they do. And sometimes new fears replace them. But becoming fearless isn’t the point. That’s impossible. It’s learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it, that’s the point.”

“I put my heard on the wall near her face and leaning it, thinking of the tattoos forming a line on my back. It wasn’t getting the tattoos that made me a faction traitor. It was what they meant to me-an escape from the narrow thinking of any one faction, the thinking that slices away at all the different parts of me, paring me down to just one version of myself.”

Goodreads Synopsis:

Fans of the Divergent series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth will be thrilled by Four: A Divergent Collection, a fourth volume in the Divergent series.

Readers first encountered Tobias Eaton as “Four” in Divergent. His voice is an integral part of Allegiant. Readers will find more of this charismatic character’s backstory told from his own perspective in Four: A Divergent Collection. When read together, these long narrative pieces illuminate the defining moments in Tobias Eaton’s life. The first three pieces in this volume–“The Transfer,” “The Initiate,” and “The Son”–follow Tobias’s transfer from Abnegation to Dauntless, his Dauntless initiation, and the first clues that a foul plan is brewing in the leadership of two factions. The fourth story, “The Traitor,” runs parallel with the events of Divergent, giving readers a glimpse into the decisions of loyalty–and love–that Tobias makes in the weeks after he meets Tris Prior.

My Review:

5/5 stars

What a fantastic read! Being a fan of the Divergent Trilogy, and finding out that the author was writing a prequel series, I knew I wanted to get it. I really am enjoying the novellas of characters from books that I enjoyed (or rather from books that I was completely heartbroken over, but still just the same). I thought that it was unique to write this collection of short stories not only as a prequel but also from Four’s point of view. Of course many of us were huge fans of Four, but it was great to see such a different side to him from what we saw in the Divergent Trilogy. I really liked that you saw how events from Divergent was unfolding even before Tris transferred to Dauntless. You really get a sense of what Four’s part was in everything that happened. I enjoyed that Veronica Roth also included scenes from Divergent, but, of course, through Four’s perspective. It was great to see many characters that we loved, but of course very sad seeing them again. I loved remembering many things that happened through Tris’s eyes from Divergent as I read the Four collection. I would highly recommend this book to those who have read Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant. Otherwise, you will be extremely confused by everything. If you have read the whole Divergent Trilogy, and then the Four collection, I think it would be interesting to re-read the Divergent trilogy again just to see how well they parallel from one another.
