Reading slump :-(

So for the past few days, I’ve tried reading Eleanor & Park and Nowhere but Here. But for some reason, I just can’t get through those two books. I doubt it’s because they aren’t good books, I’m just not feeling a connection to the books right now, sadly.

So I’m going to try a third time and read Forever with You by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Some loves will last ’til your dying breath

Every choice has consequences—but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust.

Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin—the deadliest of demons—has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her…including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city—and her race—from destruction.

Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side—and then fight like hell…

“Armentrout is a major talent…I just can’t stop reading!”

New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter

“Armentrout works her magic with swoon-worthy guys and a twist you never see coming.”

Every touch has its price

Layla Shaw is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life—no easy task for a seventeen-year-old who’s pretty sure things can’t get worse. Her impossibly gorgeous best friend, Zayne, is forever off-limits thanks to the mysterious powers of her soul-stealing kiss. The Warden clan that has always protected her is suddenly keeping dangerous secrets. And she can barely think about Roth, the wickedly hot demon prince who understood her in ways no one else could.

But sometimes rock bottom is only the beginning. Because suddenly Layla’s powers begin to evolve, and she’s offered a tantalizing taste of what has always been forbidden.  Then, when she least expects it, Roth returns, bringing news that could change her world forever. She’s finally getting what she always wanted, but with hell literally breaking loose and the body count adding up, the price may be higher than Layla is willing to pay…

“Constantly entertaining…the narrative sizzles with as much tension as romance.”

Kirkus Reviews on White Hot Kiss

WHITE HOT KISS synopsis:

One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she’s anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she’s crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she’s not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn’t an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she’s the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

In a sizzling prequel novella to her new series The Dark Elements, #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout draws readers into the extraordinary, irresistible world of Wardens and demons.

Dez wasn’t just Jasmine’s crush. A gargoyle Warden like Jas, he helped her come to terms with her destiny—fending off demons and maintaining the balance between good and evil. He was her everything…right until the moment he disappeared without a trace. It didn’t help that Jas’s father had just announced that she and Dez would one day be mated. Hard not to take that personally.

And now he’s back, three years older, ten times hotter, ready to pick up exactly where they left off. But Jas isn’t taking that risk again. Dez has seven days to meet all her conditions and earn back her trust. Seven days filled with terrifying danger and sweet temptation. Seven days to win her heart—or shatter it all over again…

“With her signature flare for combining humor, romance and action, Armentrout weaves a fast-paced read that will have readers’ hearts racing in more ways than one. Like Armentrout’s previous heroines, Jasmine is fun and full of attitude, while Dez is as snarky as he is sexy. This is a must read for new and old fans alike!” –RT Book Reviews

WICKED Synopsis:

Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans.

Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.

Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.

But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.

Handsome trendy powerful muscular man against white background with copy space

All the words in the world vanished the moment I got an eyeful of Ren.

Holy hotness with an extra side of sexy, when Ren cleaned up, he took his handsomeness into a totally different stratosphere.

The waves and curls of his hair were currently tamed, styled back from his face, showing off the angle of his cheekbones and the fullness of his lips. He was wearing a white dress shirt that showed off the hard lines of his broad shoulders and flashed a glimpse of tawny skin at his neck. I noticed then, somehow never really seeing it before, a leather cord hanging from his neck and disappearing under his shirt. I was sure that was what carried the clover, but as my gaze traveled over him, I quickly forgot about it. The edges of the tattoo poked out of the collar of his shirt, and his sleeves were rolled up to the elbow, exposing powerful forearms. The dark trousers completed the outfit. It was effortless class.

When I dragged my gaze back to his, I realized I hadn’t been the only one doing the scrutinizing. He was staring at me in his intense, consuming way, and I stepped back from the door, suddenly feeling very . . . vulnerable. As if I was exposed in front of him.

Heat crept into my cheeks as I plastered my arms to my sides. “Sorry I . . . took so long. I was . . .” I trailed off as he continued to stare at me. “What?”

Ren stepped into the house, catching the door and closing it behind him. His presence filled the living room, and I could barely drag in enough air. “This is wrong,” he said, voice thick.

Surprised by the statement, I glanced down at myself. I knew I looked like a silly girl playing dress up. “It’s the only dress I could wear,” I said, feeling the weight of embarrassment settling on my shoulders.

He gave a little shake of his head as his bright green eyes met mine. “Oh, sweetness, you did wrong in all the right ways.”

I wasn’t following.

“How in the world am I going to pay attention when you look like that?” he chided softly, and my eyes widened. He moved forward, so close that I had to tip my chin up to meet his stare. He reached out, fingering the loose sleeve of my dress. “You are utterly distracting.”

“I am?”

A half smile appeared as his fingers skipped off the material and traced the line of my shoulder, sending a tight shiver down my spine. Then his finger wrapped around a curl, the back of his hand brushing the swell of my breast. He tugged it straight like he’d done before. “You are absolutely beautiful, Ivy.”

Signed Stay with Me“My lashes lifted as I dropped the phone back in my purse. “I… um, I like the old-school stuff better what’s big today. I mean, they actually sang and played music then. Goodreads synopsis:

At 21, Calla hasn’t done a lot of things. She’s never been kissed, never seen the ocean, never gone to an amusement park. But growing up, she witnessed some things no child ever should. She still carries the physical and emotional scars of living with a strung-out mother, Mona—secrets she keeps from everyone, including her close circle of college friends.

But the safe cocoon Calla has carefully built is shattered when she discovers her mom has stolen her college money and run up a huge credit card debt in her name. Now, Calla has to go back to the small town she thought she’d left behind and clean up her mom’s mess again. Of course, when she arrives at her mother’s bar, Mona is nowhere to be found. Instead, six feet of hotness named Jackson James is pouring drinks and keeping the place humming.

Sexy and intense, Jax is in Calla’s business from the moment they meet, giving her a job and helping her search for Mona. And the way he looks at her makes it clear he wants to get horizontal . . . and maybe something more. Before Calla can let him get close, though, she’s got to deal with the pain of the past—and some very bad guys out to mess her up if she doesn’t give them her mom.

My review:

I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars

Each time I read another book in a series (Lux series and Wait for You series) by Jennifer L. Armentrout, they just get better and better.

I honestly don’t need to spend more time telling you how much I love Jennifer’s witty and beautiful writing, just look at my other reviews of her books.

This book of course had many elements that were the same as the other two books in the Wait for You series, such as the male and female characters meeting, and how events from the characters past impacts their present. One difference between Stay with Me and the other two books was that this was much more suspenseful. In this novel, Calla ends up going back to her hometown and spending much of her time looking for her drug addicted mother that no one has seen or heard from. There were many shady characters throughout this book (very mafia-like) and seemed a little too unbelievable. The storyline in the other two books seemed much more realistic.

I still did love the storyline in this book in how elements of both and Jax and Calla’s past were similar, so you knew that there was a connection between the two even if they didn’t know it.

I automatically loved Calla’s character when she made a cameo in the second book being Teresa’s eventual best friend from music. I loved the fact that she was a protective friend to Teresa and I loved her bluntness and her honesty.

I definitely found this book more meaningful because I was able to relate to aspects of Calla’s character very easily. She is a blunt, honest, and caring character and she never felt as though guys looked at her as more than a friend. This was due to her quietness, which in turn caused the guys to think she wasn’t interested (her conversation with Teresa about Brandon from the second book). I feel as though there are a lot of girls that could relate to her character as well because of this.

Jax was absolutely a strong, caring and passionate character. At times I thought he was so obnoxious and wouldn’t take no for an answer. I felt that he was perfect for Calla because she had never known anyone necessarily taking care of her, so it makes sense that she didn’t know exactly how to handle things with Jax. The way in which their relationship developed was fantastic and very natural. He was very understanding and patient with Calla knowing that she may not have the same experiences as most people their age. Their relationship was more intimate than the other books because it took awhile for them to get to know one another and establish something. In the first book in the series, Cam and Avery meet and seem to fall for one another right away. In the second book, Jase and Teresa had an established relationship because of his friendship with Cam and Teresa being Cam’s younger sister.

This book was absolutely heartbreaking, suspenseful, and romantic and I highly recommend everyone reading this book. Annnddd there may or may not be some characters from the previous books that you get to see again in this book.

Happy Reading!

“Jase stared at me a moment longer and then he laughed deeply- the sound rich and yummy. God help me, but I loved it when he laughed like that. Goodreads synopsis:

Teresa Hamilton is having a rough year—she’s in love with her big brother’s best friend, but he hasn’t spoken to her since they shared a truly amazing, mind-blowing, change-your-life kiss. She got out of a terrible relationship. And now an injury is threatening to end her dance career for good. It’s time for Plan B – college. And maybe a chance to convince Jase that what they have together is real.

Jase Winstead has a huge secret that he’s not telling anyone. Especially not his best friend’s incredibly beautiful sister. Even though he and Teresa shared the hottest kiss of his life, he knows that his responsibilities must take priority. He certainly doesn’t have time for a relationship. But it doesn’t help that all he can think about kissing the one girl who could ruin everything for him.

As they’re thrown together more and more, Jase and Tess can’t keep denying their feelings for each other. But a familiar danger looms and tragedy strikes. As the campus recovers, the star-crossed couple must decide what they’re willing to risk to be together, and what they’re willing to lose if they’re not…

My review:

I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars

Another hit for author j. Lynn. This book was the second book in the Wait for You series and was even better!

It was better overall, but it was a little slow in the beginning ( just in the first chapter or two. I loved how this book was written in a non-linear way in that there were many moments that brought up past events with the characters. The plot was written very smoothly even when the characters talked about events and experiences from their past.

I loved how a few characters from the first book were back in this book, like Cam and Avery. It was nice to see a little snippet of where their relationship would eventually become (hopefully!!- read the book to find out).
One of my favorite minor characters from this book has got to be Calla. I loved how blunt and honest she was. She was definitely a supportive friend to Teresa.

I liked how the relationship between the tie main characters was set up differently than the first novel. In the first novel, Cam and Avery meet one another on campus. In this book, Teresa and Jase know each other because Jase is friends with Teresa’s older brother Cam, so there was already some form of an established relationship between the two.I loved the way JLA set up the progression of Jase and Teresa’s relationship from being acquaintances to becoming friends to something more.  You could sense the intensity in their relationship even before Teresa and Jase knew it. This of course was very frustrating!
From the get go, I really liked Jase’s character. Even though he had a reputation for being a player, you could sense that there was more to him then meets the eye. At first I couldn’t get a handle on who Teresa was and what she was about. As I continued reading I came to realize that she was a caring strong and gutsy character. This was such an intense read! From the moments when Teresa and Jase were together, to how elements of both Jase and Teresa’s past came to the present. And my goodness their cupcake tradition was so cute! (yes you will just have to read the book to find out-and now I understand why Jennifer signed my book with the word cupcakes 🙂  ).

This novel was a fantastic portrayal of how much our past is only partially who we are and also that life surprises us in unexpected ways, both good and bad. I highly recommend this book if you are a fan of Jennifer l. Armentrout but also if you enjoy contemporary books. This is a new adult genre book so the details about the characters are much more intimate than in YA books.

Happy Reading!!

Review of Opposition (Lux #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Goodreads synopsis:
Katy knows the world changed the night the Luxen came.

She can’t believe Daemon welcomed his race or stood by as his kind threatened to obliterate every last human and hybrid on Earth. But the lines between good and bad have blurred, and love has become an emotion that could destroy her—could destroy them all.

Daemon will do anything to save those he loves, even if it means betrayal.

They must team with an unlikely enemy if there is any chance of surviving the invasion. But when it quickly becomes impossible to tell friend from foe, and the world is crumbling around them, they may lose everything— even what they cherish most—to ensure the survival of their friends…and mankind.

War has come to Earth. And no matter the outcome, the future will never be the same for those left standing.
My review: I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars
What a bittersweet book!

Let’s take a moment so I can find right words to explain everything I felt reading the final book in the Lux series.

I still continue to enjoy JLA’s writing and plot line! There was so much going on throughout this book, but each element for perfectly well together (just like Daemon and Katy).  I noticed more so in this book, but the words that JLA uses in order to describe the characters emotions is unbelievable.

There were moments where I felt like I had to hold my breath (cliche line anyone?) and other moments where I felt as though things would finally be looking up for the characters that we have grown to love reading about since the first novel. I liked how this book brought all elements of the aliens together: the Luxen (good/bad), the Origins (good/bad), the hybrids, and the Arum. It really ties everything from the whole series together.

This novel definitely tested the limits in Daemon and Katy’s relationship. You honestly had no idea what would happen to them (not cool Ms. Armentrout, not cool).

I liked the element of surprise that JLA wrote throughout this book especially regarding Katy and her relationships with everyone she knew.

I really enjoyed reading this book, even though it was filled with soooo many heartbreaking and bittersweet moments.

I would definitely recommend this book. And if you haven’t started the series… Well I don’t know why your wasting time, go read it!!!

Review of Origin (Lux #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

IMG_4934  13644052

“While you’re deep in something, you never say or do what you need to. It’s always after the fact, when it’s too late, that you realize what you should’ve said or done.” pg. 427 Lux: Consequences by Jennifer L. Armentrout

“I’d told her that we made the good kind of crazy together, and I hadn’t known how true that really was until this very moment, because what I was about to do was really, truly, 100 percent certifiable.” pg. 481 Lux: Consequences by Jennifer L. Armentrout

“It wasn’t that I felt stronger because he was there, though in a way I was. But it was because I now had someone on my side, someone who had my back. I wasn’t alone in this, and if it had been the other way around, I would’ve done the same thing he’d done. I doubted-.” pg. 525 Lux: Consequences by Jennifer L. Armentrout

“Sometimes words were cheap. They could be powerful, but in those rare occasions like now, words meant nothing.” pg. 623 Lux: Consequences by Jennifer L. Armentrout

“My eyes landed on a stuffed green doll with an oval head and large black eyes. I picked it up, frowning. Why in the world did humans think aliens looked like a whacked-out Gumby?” pg. 625 Lux: Consequences by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Goodreads synopsis:

Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.

After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.

All Katy can do is survive.

Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?

Together, they can face anything.

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?

And will they even be together?

My review:

I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars.

I am so sorry for not writing out this review sooner!

I was so so happy that I had the special collectors edition because I don’t know what I would’ve done if I didn’t have Origin around to begin after what happened to Katy in Opal.

The beginning of Origin takes place more or less right after the events in Opal.

I really enjoyed the way in which this book was written. Like many recent books that I have read, this book was written from both Daemon and Katy’s perspective (which is absolutely fantastic). I feel as though you are given an opportunity to see more about a character besides the main character. And since it’s also written from Daemon’s perspective, you get sooo much more of his sarcasm and humor.

In the beginning, you are given a chance to read what happens to Katy and what she is going through after she is caught at Mount Weather, as well as what Daemon is going through back home as he deals with Katy being caught.

You will such a change in Katy’s character, especially from the person you saw in the first book. She faced extreme hardships during her time after being taken. You feel so much pain for what she is put through, and for Daemon as he tries his hardest to get back to her no matter what, even if it means putting himself in harms way. But there are also many happy moments! And then very sad, heartbreaking moments again ( so be prepared!).

Like the previous books in this series, there are many twists and turns throughout this book and you will be shocked by what you find out.

Out of all the books the ending left me completely stunned and shocked, so I would highly recommend that you have Opposition (Lux #5) on hand with you. Since I began this series, I like each book even more than the previous one.

You should absolutely read this amazing and unforgettable book in the Lux series!

Happy Reading!
